EARLIER THIS WEEK the Orihuela Town Hall announced the third annual event that showcases the finest gastronomic cuisine produced by local restaurants throughout the Orihuela Costa.
The Councillor for Tourism, Sofía Álvarez, appeared on local television channel TV Vega Baja to announce the celebration on Thursday.
The media announcement was also attended by Matilde Medina, manager of the Hotel Montepiedra in Campoamor, and the event will see six of the locales best restaurants produce a unique and special menu over the course of 6 consecutive days.
The restaurants have already been given the seal of approval, with each participating restaurant awarded the coveted SICTED accolade.
The SICTED awards (Sistema Integral de Calidad Turística Española en Destinos) recognise high quality tourist destinations.
Developed as an integrated and permanent quality management system, SICTED is promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism with the support of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.
Only the best local establishments receive SICTED recognition, with the ultimate aim of improving customer service and satisfaction, specifically for local Spanish businesses operating in the hospitality and tourism industry throughout the country.
Officially billed as the “Gastronomic Days of SICTED in Orihuela” the event will run from Tuesday 12th June for six days, culminating on Sunday 17th June.
An exclusive menu will be prepared using only locally sourced Valencian ingredients that focus on the best provincial food available from the Spanish land and sea.
Councillor Sofía Álvarez stated “We want to encourage both local residents and tourists on the Orihuela Costa to enjoy these gastronomic days, which turn the raw ingredients available in our locality, in to high quality artisanal dishes”.
“We continue working with a clear commitment to position Orihuela as a quality tourist destination, and with this event, we hope to highlight the quality of Vega Baja ingredients and gastronomic tourism in particular” said Ms Álvarez.
