THIS AREA OF SPAIN is served by five magnificent Orihuela Costa golf courses. Each championship course features a full complement of 18 holes offering wide fairways, perfectly manicured greens, and challenging layouts.
Every golf course offers a variety of world class facilities, from fine dining restaurants to casual bars and cafes. It’s a wonderful way to spend a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of the Orihuela Costa’s beaches, areas which can be particularly busy right now.
And because the low season for golf in Spain runs from June through to September each year, now is a great time to try your hand at the sport, with bargains to be had when it comes to green fees during the summer months.
These Orihuela Costa golf courses are all less than 20 minutes away from La Zenia by car, so trade those flip-flops for an electric golf cart and you could be whizzing your way through majestic Mediterranean countryside in no time.
Orihuela Costa golf: Campo de Golf Villamartin
Villamartin golf course is the closest to La Zenia, and the course was one of the first to be established in the local area.
This beautiful course has been welcoming golfers since 1972, with it’s meticulously landscaped greens and fairways offering a challenging round in all seasons.
It’s close proximity to Villamartin Plaza means visitors have plenty of high quality dining options, and a restaurant on the course itself offers spectacular views across the fairways.
Orihuela Costa golf: Real Club de Golf Campoamor Resort
One of the larger golf courses with a 6,277m round and par 72, players can enjoy a course whose lawns, neatly-manicured to the highest standards, are only enhanced by the lush vegetation and fauna.
The open layout is an easy walk with minimal traffic interference, and whilst a buggy is available it is not necessary for most able-bodied players.
Originally opened in 1988, the golf course has seen perpetual development and upgrades to keep the club at the leading edge of the sport.
Orihuela Costa golf: Las Ramblas Golf de Campoamor
Las Ramblas golf course is built into a beautiful landscape of Mediterranean pines and natural ravines. Although not particularly long, its rugged landscape and beautiful trees make the game more enjoyable.
The greens are large and generous, featuring a combination of fast and gentle slopes. What the course lacks in on-site facilities (comparable to other local courses) it compensates the player for with its unmatched natural beauty.
There are abundant natural shady areas making it a pleasant place to spend an afternoon, even during the warmest summer months of the year.
Orihuela Costa golf: Lo Romero Golf
This relative newcomer to the Costa Blanca golf circuit only opened officially in 2008 after a long development period.
Located close to Pilar de la Horadada, the natural watercourses, meandering paths, surrounding hills, and Mediterranean flora and fauna all contribute to an ultimately beautiful course that’s popular all year round, both in and out of season.
And one feature you probably won’t find anywhere else on the Orihuela Costa is the Buggy Bar; a custom fitted Pro Golf Cart that provides cold drinks and light snacks to keep golfers refreshed on the fairway itself.
Orihuela Costa golf: Las Colinas Golf and Country Club
Located just 15km´s inland from La Zenia, Las Colinas is one of the finest golf courses to emerge in Europe recently and the only Orihuela Costa golf course to feature in Golf´s Top 100 list of continental European courses.
It is painstakingly managed by Troon Golf: the challenging layout seamlessly lying across an isolated valley and boasting ornately manicured fairways, pristine putting surfaces, and panoramic views of the local coastline.
The generous width of its fairways, the unique design of its extensive greens, and the various tees at each hole give it a great versatility, making it a suitable venue for professional competitions in addition to leisure play.
