ORIHUELA TOWN HALL’S Councillor for Tourism has announced the sixth annual Orihuela Tapas and Gin & Tonic route which will take place next month over the weekend of the 16th to the 18th of November.

Councillor Sofía Álvarez said, “This Tapas route is the most supported by the town’s hospitality sector, local residents, and international tourists visiting the area during the autumn months”.

Orihuela Tapas and Gin & Tonic RouteThere has been a 21% increase in the number of bars, restaurants and cafes taking part in this year’s route, with about 40 local establishments participating and hoping to win this year’s coveted prizes.

The tapas dishes which will be served throughout the Orihuela tapas event were presented at the María Moliner municipal library earlier this week, and the categories of tapas announced.

Participating venues will be able to compete for prizes for the best gourmet tapa, a sweet tapa, and traditional tapa dishes, in addition to an award for the establishment who’s Gin & tonic is voted the most popular through the “Rutappa” mobile application.

A special prize will be available for selected participants who vote via the app.

Orihuela Tapas Route: A chance to enjoy a historic town

Councillor Sofía Álvarez announced that the panel of judges would include the president of the Association of Moors and Christians of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, members of the council team, and representatives from the companies sponsoring the tapas route this year.

Orihuela Tapas and Gin & Tonic RouteThe Orihuela Tapas and Gin & Tonic route is affordable for everyone with the price of traditional tapas set at just €1.00, and the sweet and gourmet dishes costing €1.50 per tapa.

The price of the gin & tonic is set by each establishment taking part, and restaurants will also be preparing speciality tapas dishes suitable for celiac diners.

You will be able to take part in the Orihuela tapas route from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th November, with the menu offered twice each day from 12.00pm to 03.00pm, and in the evening from 08.00pm to 11.00pm.

The Orihuela Councillor wanted to thank “all the hospitality establishments of our municipality, the sponsors of this route and, of course, the judging team”, adding “this tapas route is about filling the streets of Orihuela with life and to raise awareness of our city”.
