Known locally as “Chiringuitos”, these miniature café-style bars provide residents and visitors with light refreshments while here on holiday. They're a popular meeting point and watering hole.

In addition to providing food and drink directly on the beach, each beach bar provides other services such as sunbed and parasol hire, water sports, and a schedule of live music and entertainment throughout the summer.

Some of Orihuela Costa's chiringuitos are open year-round, but most only offer their services at certain times of the year. Out of season, the beach bars are removed and stored inland, to be returned to the beach at the start of the following year.

So when do the beach bars close, and when do they open again? Here's a list of all Orihuela Costa beach bars, with their seasonal opening and closing times.

Playa Cala Bosque, La Zenia

One of only two beach bars to open all year round, the chiringuito on La Zenia beach is open every day, 365 days a year, including Christmas Day.

Sunbeds are available from 15th March until 31st December each season (17 € per day for two beds and a shared parasol), and water sports operate on the beach from 15th June until 15th September during the main summer season.

Playa Cala La Caleta, Cabo Roig

The beach bar on Cabo Roig's most popular beach is open every day throughout the year.

Sunbed and parasol hire are available from 16th March until 31st December each year, and water sports operate on the beach from 15th June until 15th September during the summer.

Playa de la Glea, Dehesa de Campoamor

One of the most popular Orihuela Costa beach bars, the chiringuito on Campoamor Beach opens 15th March and closes on the 1st December.

Sunbeds are available from 15th March until 30th October, and water sports take place from 15th June until 30th October.

Cala Capitán, Cabo Roig

The beach bar on Playa de Cala Capitán opens on 15th March and closes the season on 15th November each year. Sunbeds and parasols are available for hire between 15th March and 30th October.

Cala Estaca, Playa Flamenca

One of two beach bars in Playa Flamenca, the chiringuito on Cala Estaca Beach opens on 15th March and closes on 30th October. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during this season.

Playa de Mil Palmeras, Mil Palmeras

Opening shortly before Easter each year, the beach bar on Mil Palmeras Beach opens on 1st April and closes out the season on 30th October. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during this time.

Playa de Punta Prima, Punta Prima

The beach bar on Punta Prima Beach opens from 1st April until 30th October each year. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during this time.

Cala Mosca, Playa Flamenca

The chiringuito beach bar on Playa Flamenca's smallest beach opens from 15th May until 30th October. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during the main summer season.

Cala Cerrada, La Zenia

The beach bar on La Zenia's official surfing beach opens on 15th March each year and closes on 30th October. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during this season.

Playa de Aguamarina, Aguamarina

With one of the shortest seasons in Orihuela Costa, the beach bar in Aguamarina Beach opens on 1st June and closes on 30th September. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available throughout the summer.

Playa de Barranco Rubio, Dehesa de Campoamor

The beach bar opens from 1st June until 30th September each year. Sunbeds and parasol hire are also available during the summer season, and water sports take place on Barranco Rubio beach from 1st July until 30th August.

When do the Orihuela Costa beach bars open and close?

Most beach bars open from 09:00 each day and close at 21:00. However, it should be noted that each chiringuito may close later if they are busy or have an event or entertainment scheduled, and may choose to remain closed during periods of inclement weather.

The beach bars along the Orihuela Costa coast have received a significant overhaul over the past few years, and the local organisations that administer their day-to-day operations have spared no expense to ensure that the facilities meet expectations.

Each one has been prefabricated off-site from sustainable materials to minimise the impact on the fragile beach environment.

In addition to the cool eco-style, designed to fit in with their surroundings, the bars have received improved toilet facilities and dedicated lifeguard stations fully equipped by the local authorities to deal with most emergencies during the summer season.

The lifeguard stations offer essential medical support and first aid to members of the public, and their installation enabled the beaches to retain their Blue Flag status.

The bars are open every day throughout the summer season, serving a menu of light bites throughout the day.

The Chiringuitos in La Zenia and Cabo Roig open all year round and the beaches are often selected as the locations for the council's Winter Beach programme.

During the height of summer, the Orihuela Costa Chiringuitos offer a weekend social calendar of live music, dancing, fitness, and organised events.

La Zenia's Playa Cala Bosque beach bar often hosts morning Yoga sessions and chilled afternoons of music, with local musicians and DJs playing to crowds of sunseekers into the weekend.

With a busy social calendar throughout the summer, including special events on the beaches of Cala Bosque in La Zenia, and Cala Capitán and Cala La Caleta in Cabo Roig, the beach bars put on an admirable show every year that entertains locals and visitors alike.

The bars (and the hard-working team that provides the valued service), are locally renowned for their friendly atmosphere, warm welcome, and good sense of humour.

The Chiringuito beach bars offer a sustainable service too, taking every opportunity to reduce the number of plastic and non-recycled components throughout the service. They also help to maintain the clean environment expected on the beach.

The Orihuela Costa Chiringuitos provide vital services in beach areas typically devoid of public facilities, and there are currently nine beach bars servicing the requirements of sunseekers along the Orihuela Costa and south Costa Blanca coastal regions.

It's been a great week for Paddys Point, having been presented with the food award for “Best Tapa in an Irish Pub” earlier this week following the second Orihuela Costa Irish Pub Crawl.

The “Ruta de Pubs Irlandeses” took place over the Easter weekend in April, amidst some of the worst springtime weather in years, with twenty local Irish pubs participating in the Council-sponsored event.

Despite the weather, the event was declared an outstanding success, and the Town Hall Councillor for Tourism and Foreign Residents, Sofia Álvarez, presented the award on Wednesday.

The award-winning venue is no stranger to such accolades, claiming the “Irish Pub with the Best Atmosphere” award in last year's Irish tapas route.

The much-loved and revered establishment first opened in 1999, and the Paddys Point team has been delivering a first class service to residents and visitors for the past two decades.

The bar´s unbridled success is a credit to Irish owners Hazel Connor and Rory Lee. The pair had the vision and ability to not only create the inviting physical space, but also to assemble one of the most capable, dynamic, and friendly teams within the local leisure industry.

The first Irish pub on the Orihuela Costa and today the most established, Paddys Point has an enviable reputation for good food, with a dedicated kitchen team focused on the delivery of consistently high-quality dishes.

We reviewed the venue earlier this year way back in January, and we were immediately impressed by the presentation of the food and the attentive service.

The atmosphere and decor both inside the pub and out, are unique, welcoming and unmistakenly Irish. Walk outside and a large terrace provides a helpful reminder that this is actually Spain, with plenty of sunshine and space to enjoy a meal with family and friends.

Undoubtedly a sports bar, Paddys Point screens major sporting events on large screen TV´s throughout the dining room, and a packed schedule of live music and entertainment that runs throughout the year, keeps diners and partygoers flocking to the venue.

For their 20th anniversary, Paddys Point is promising a day of live music and entertainment including performances from some of the most popular names in local talent.

Singer and local radio presenter Paul Cullen is expected to take to the stage, along with Irish showman Pat Coyne.

Local Costa Blanca rock band The Cages will be gigging at the party, playing a selection of music to suit all tastes, ranging from classic rock to modern pop songs.

Ali and Che from Kolted are scheduled to perform, and tribute act Showaddywaddy Legend will reunite for one night only to headline the milestone.

Local close-up magician and balloon artist Graeme Mykal will be at the party and moving through the crowds to demonstrate his magical sleight-of-hand and balloon modelling prowess.

Paddys Point is promising a total of twelve hours of non-stop music, a party photo booth, special anniversary prizes, free giveaways and games, and drinks promotions throughout the event. Bacon and cabbage will be served all day.

The route takes place Saturday 20th April and Sunday 21st April, focusing upon the finest Irish establishments along the Orihuela coastline, promising spectacular decorations, an authentic Irish pub atmosphere, and the best drink and tapas options available.

Encompassing some of the best-loved and renowned local Irish bars, the route stretches from Los Altos in the east of the region to Villamartin and Cabo Roig in the west, with the highest concentration of venues surrounding the La Zenia and Playa Flamenca communities.

The list of participating pubs is comprehensive, reading like a whos-who of popular local Irish haunts: The Auld Dubliner, Randy Leprechaun, The Stray Sod, and The Depot on the Cabo Roig strip.

We were pleased to notice the inclusion of one of our long-time favourite Irish bars, Paddys Point in La Zenia, with their magnificent outdoor terrace and a creative kitchen team that consistently serves their high quality and extensive dining menu.

2nd Orihuela Costa Irish Pub Crawl: a taste of Ireland for just 2,50€

Irish pub's across the Orihuela Costa will be participating in next week's organised event, with each venue promising to provide the best possible selection of entertainment, great food, and of course, plenty of the liquid gold: Ireland´s infamous Guinness.

Each venue will be offering a small beer with a tapas dish for 2,50€, and Orihuela Town Hall will be awarding prizes during the course of the event for establishments offering the best tapas, the best standard of themed decor, and the highest level of overall presentation.

As with last year's event, Orihuela Town Hall has gone to great lengths to reach out to all members of the international residential community, publishing local information in both Spanish and English languages.

The council have produced a map of the Irish Pub Crawl highlighting the venue en route and local points of interest, available from the Town Hall in Playa Flamenca.

In addition, the Council are laying on a complimentary bus service for the day with two free bus routes linking all the pubs together with Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, adjacent to the taxi rank and bus stop.

The buses will be in service for both days, visiting each pub every 30 minutes so that attendees can enjoy the event without the need to drive. Scheduled services start and finish at Zenia Boulevard from 13:00 until 23:00, on the hour and every half hour, and guests are invited to hop on and off as much as they like.

Stops include Paddys Point, Murphys, The Celtic Isle, Abbey Tavern, The Emerald Isle, Quiet Man, Gogartys, Trinity, O'Riordans, Slievenamon, and many other local Irish themed establishments throughout the Orihuela Costa region.

Please drink responsibly, and do not get behind the wheel of a car if you intend to drink alcohol at this local event. Orihuela Costa Irish Pub Crawl, a fusing of international cultures

In total 31 Irish pub's across the Orihuela Costa will be participating in next week's organised event, with each venue promising to provide the best possible selection of entertainment, high-quality food, and of course, plenty of the black gold liquid: Guinness.

The pubs will be offering a small beer with a tapas dish for €2.50, and Orihuela Town Hall will be awarding prizes during the event for establishments judged to offer the best tapas, the best standard of themed decor, and the highest level of overall presentation.

The event was announced by Sofía Álvarez, the Councillor for International Residents of the City of Orihuela, in coordination with the Town Hall's representative for the Irish community, Raymond Kearney.

Ms Álvarez has pioneered previous events in the Orihuela Costa area that focus on bringing residents of all nationalities together in a spirit of unity, including the Perrotón dog marathon held at Villamartin Plaza in February.

“Initiatives like this allow us to appreciate the size of the population of Orihuela, a municipality which has a third of its population living on the coast, with almost 30,000 residents comprised of 101 nationalities, where one of the most important is the Irish community,” she said.

Orihuela Town Hall has gone to great lengths to reach out to the international residential community, publishing local information in both Spanish and English languages, and performing guided tours of some of Orihuela City's most beautiful monuments in English.

The council have produced a map of the Irish Pub Crawl highlighting the venues en route and local points of interest, and will provide a minibus service for both days that passes each pub every 20 minutes so that attendees can enjoy the event without the need to drive.

Mr Kearney thanked the Councillor for supporting local Irish residents, and Ms Álvarez invited every one of all nationalities to “discover this part of the coast and enjoy this local experience, which will put Orihuela on the map of Spain again, empower our international residential community, and revitalize the municipality”.

The much loved Spanish beach bars are a haven for sun-seeking beach aficionados, offering welcome shade and refreshments throughout the long Mediterranean

The Chiringuito on Punta Prima's main beach is located in a high-quality residential area bustling with tourists throughout the high season, and devoid of local services along the coastline Punta Prima's beach bar is incredibly popular and provides a welcome watering hole for coastal walkers.

Constructed entirely of pressure-treated hardwood to preserve the natural environment, the Chiringuitos offer full bar service, with an elevated wooden decked terraced area overlooking the magnificent Punta Prima beach.

Chiringuitos, great value beachfront family dining

In addition to providing liquid refreshment, the beach bar also offers a menu of food including toasted sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pizzas and Spanish Tapas.

Prices are reasonable too, with a toasted sandwich from €3.70, a beefburger from €5.00, and pizza prices starting at €6.80. The ideal place for casual family dining.

Playa Flamenca's beach bar at Cala Estaca reopened just yesterday, while Punta Prima's beach bar opened Saturday. Both bars are open for service seven days a week throughout the summer.
