But the party doesn't stop once the summer ends, and Donut Boats are available for hire during the autumn and winter months too. From 1st October until 31st April, lunchtime hire sessions take place from 11:00 until 14:00 every day of the week.

Lunch or dinner sessions cost €200 for the smaller boat and €250 for the larger craft. An additional hour can be added to a hire session for an extra €40. The boats are fully insured and completely family-friendly, but “El Capitán” must be at least 18 years old to pilot the craft.

Located in a privileged position overlooking La Zenia's idyllic Cala Bosque beach, La Mirada offers a large pool perfect for families, with optional sunbeds available for hire.

A pool bar provides waiter service throughout the summer months. The restaurant serves a range of Spanish delicacies in the indoor dining room or outside on the terrace with unobstructed views of the beach and the Mediterranean Sea.

Use of the pool costs 10€ per day, and 15€ gets visitors a reserved poolside sunbed included in the price. Children under 3 years are admitted free of charge. The pool opens at 11:00 every day throughout the summer season.

Marimba Blue Pool & Restaurant | San Miguel

Sporting a large pool, a lounge bar, and a POP padel tennis court, Marimba Blue is ideal for whiling away an afternoon (or two) in the sunshine.

The on-site restaurant offers a full bar service with speciality cocktails, a simple light-bites menu for lunch or early-bird dinner, and shaded tables among the palm trees.

Padel tennis court hire costs 10€ per hour, with a nominal charge of 1€ for the hire of each ball and racquet required for play.

Pool admission costs 6€ per person, but children under 3 years are admitted free of charge, and the price includes a sunbed. The venue is open from 09:00 until late every day except Monday.

Sporting a large freeform swimming pool and a separate pool for children, La Chismosa is ideal for family fun in the sun. Pool entry costs 5,50€ plus 3,50€ for a sunbed.

The restaurant offers a fully stocked bar with a covered terrace, and a pocket-friendly menu of light bites and poolside food that appeals to young and mature palates alike.

It's a firm family favourite, and the venue offers a “miniature” mini golf course ideal for younger children or novice golf fans. Open from 10:00 daily throughout the summer season.

The Palms Beach Club | Lomas de Cabo Roig

WOW Beach by Las Colinas | Campoamor

WOW Beach Club offers the pinnacle of luxury accompanied by first-line views of the beach and the Mediterranean Sea in Campoamor. A speciality restaurant offers a menu of fine dining food and cocktails, with seasonal menus throughout the week.

Pool admittance costs 35€ per adult or 50€ for a first-line sunbed. Luxurious Balinese beds are available with prices from 105€, or €140 including Champagne for the ultimate luxury treat.

Pool Bar Lago Jardin | Los Balcones

Sporting one of the largest swimming pools in Orihuela Costa, the cloverleaf-shaped pool offers plenty of space for splashing around in the sunshine – even in the height of summer.

The poolside restaurant offers a menu of traditional Spanish tapas, paellas and rice dishes, and popular fish and chips. The venue opens for breakfast, and the bar serves refreshments throughout the day.

Super family-friendly and close to our neighbouring city of Torrevieja, Pool Bar Lago Jardin is open every day from 10:00 until late during the summer season, closing on Mondays at other times throughout the year.

Restaurante Cala Capitán | Cabo Roig

A large gastronomic, sports and leisure complex, Restaurante Cala Capitán boasts four tennis courts, a children's playground, and two swimming pools – one for adults and another for children. Use of the pool costs 5€ and 3€ for children.

The restaurant specialises in rice and seafood dishes, and the house speciality is rice served with Mediterranean octopus. Fresh fish is brought directly from the fish market each day, along with a selection of quality meats.

Olympia Pool & Garden Bar | Mil Palmeras

Olympia Pool & Garden Bar offers an Olympic-sized swimming pool with sunbeds, a spacious lawned garden, a restaurant with an à la carte menu, and a poolside bar offering a wide variety of soft drinks, cocktails, and ice creams.

The restaurant offers a menu of pizzas, burgers, salads, and main dishes at affordable prices and a wide variety of choices to suit the tastes of all ages. The dedicated playground has slides and swings for younger guests.

This year's event, the Festival Aéreo Internacional AIRE 25 will take place at San Javier's Academia General del Aire, with an open day on Saturday 14th June 2025 between 10:00 and 17:00.

The weekend event promises to be the largest air show ever seen in Spain, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Patrulla Águila (Eagle Patrol), the national Spanish aerobatic display team.

There will be static displays relating to the Air Academy and Spanish aviation history, and visitors will be able to see inside the different models of fighter aircraft, helicopters, and transport aircraft used by the Spanish Air and Space Force, the “Ejército del Aire y del Espacio”.

The annual event is truly international in nature with participants from across the globe, and the main air show takes place on Sunday 15th June 2025.

San Javier Air Show, Sunday 15th June 2025

The display will include formation and aerobatic displays by the Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jets of the French precision aerobatic demonstration unit, the Patrouille Acrobatique de France.

They will be joined by their Italian counterpart, the Frecce Tricolori demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, flying Aermacchi MB-339 military jet trainers.

The United Kingdom's Royal Air Force “Red Arrows” Aerobatic Team will take to the Mediterranean skies in their distinctive red liveried BAE Systems Hawk T1 jets, accompanied later by the Patrouille Suisse display team of the Swiss Air Force flying their fleet of Northrop F-5 light fighter aircraft.

They will perform alongside Spain's aerobatic display team. The Patrulla Águila aerobatic demonstration team is based at San Javier Air Base and traditionally performs at some of the country's most nationally significant events, including a breathtaking aerobatic display over the skies of Madrid each October.

The largest airshow ever seen in Spain

Part of the 794th Squadron of the General Air and Space Academy (AGA), the Murcia air show will be the last chance to see Spain's national aerobatics team fly their CASA C-101 Aviojets, as the Spanish Air and Space Force transitions to Pilatus PC-21 turboprop-powered advanced trainer aircraft.

The San Javier Air Show will include displays from the Spanish Air Force's Patrulla ASPA aerobatic helicopter team based at Armilla Air Base in Granada. The group will be in attendance at the show with their Eurocopter EC-120B Colibri helicopters.

Some of the outstanding show highlights will be solo displays by a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet multirole combat jet, the AV-8B Harrier II of the Spanish Navy, and a Eurofighter Typhoon, assembled by Airbus at their factory in Getafe just south of Madrid.

Late risers on Sunday morning will wake to thunderous skies and the aroma of jet fuel, as the large-scale aerial display commences at 10:00.

San Javier Air Show is one of the most visually impressive events in the Murcia calendar, and the aerobatic teams will take to the skies on Sunday accompanied by helicopter and parachute display teams.

The best places to view the air show in Murcia

The main aerial display commences at 10:00 on Sunday 15th June 2025, and will be best viewed from Santiago de La Ribera's beaches. The aircraft will depart San Javier and fly over the Mediterranean Sea and the open waters of the Mar Menor.

The beaches are expected to be busy, with Playa de Barnuevo, Playa de El Pescador, Playa El Castillico, and the large fine sandy beach of Playa de Colón all expecting a high visitor turnout.

Just over an hour away from La Zenia by car, Aqua Natura is a sprawling 40,000 square metre Greek-inspired water park with an open design that allows parents to keep a close eye on the little ones.

Take a stroll along the promenade and relax on the beach, enjoy the adrenaline rush of the water slides or let your children have fun in the kid's zone. Lifeguards are on duty at all times for your peace of mind.

Les Fonts de l'Algar, Callosa d'en Sarrià | Travel time 1h 40m

Les Fonts d' Algar (or Las Fuentes del Algar) are only 50 minutes from Alicante airport and just over an hour and a half from La Zenia by car.

Upon arrival, you will find a spectacular oasis that's simply a world away from the cosmopolitan, modern and connected feel of the Orihuela Costa.

A series of natural waterfalls and pools brim with clean vibrant mountain waters year-round, with ad-hoc swimming particularly popular during the warmer months.

A 1.5 km walking route winds through the towering limestone cliffs where visitors are able to ramble along the bed of the river, and view the amazing waterfalls, natural springs, and swim in the crystal clear waters at the bottom of the waterfalls.

Terra Mitica, Benidorm | Travel time 1h 10m

Terra Mitica is a large adventure theme park just north of Benidorm. Explore the ancient Mediterranean civilisations as you travel around the theme park experiencing the history of Greece, Egypt and ancient Rome.

The amusement park has something for everyone with a total of 25 rides. Adrenaline addicts can enjoy the thrills of the Inferno rollercoaster and “El Vuelo Del Fénix”, a 60-metre tall fast drop tower.

There are plenty of family-friendly and children's rides too, including Ayquesustus and “Puerto De Alejandria” which provides a simulated boat ride from Egypt to Iberia.

And when it's time for a break from the thrill of the rides you can enjoy one of the many shows which take place throughout the day such as Barbarroja, a daily performance with a real pirate ship, a town, a 20-metre high cliff and a lot of special effects and surprises.

Elche Palmeral, Elche | Travel time 50m

Lying less than an hour from the Orihuela Costa, the Carthaginian palm grove consists of more than 200,000 date palms located on the east bank of the Vinalopó river, making it the largest natural palm orchard in Europe.

The Palmeral has existed since the eighth century when the city of Elche was established, and the Romans constructed an elaborate network of irrigation channels that are still present and working to this day.

The Elche Palmeral also offers something for budding adrenaline lovers, with its own adventure zone with thrilling attractions for people of all ages to enjoy.

The feature attraction is the Triaction Tower, a triple-faced 22 metre high climbing wall providing panoramic views over the surrounding Palmeral. Once at the top, the descent is via a high-speed 220-metre zip-line or a controlled vertical freefall.

Orihuela City, Orihuela | Travel time 40m

Looking for the real Spain? Spanish culture and a legendary history lie just 40 minutes away in the city that lends its name to the Orihuela Costa.

Orihuela features some truly breathtaking architecture, medieval churches, and art museums. Take a closer look by following one of the organised tourist routes through the city, organised by the council each year.

To completely immerse yourself in the genuine local culture, enjoy a meal at one of the many traditional Spanish restaurants, bars and cafe's, which line the winding streets of Orihuela. The city's facilities (including bars and restaurants) are now open.

Rio Safari Park, Elche | Travel time 45m

Less than an hour from the Orihuela Costa, the Rio Safari park is a conservationist zoological centre that helps some of the planets most endangered animals.

The animal park houses and cares for numerous animals – big cats such as Bengal tigers and Jaguars, several species of monkeys and apes, African giraffes, and a family of sea lions.

There are chances for close encounters with some of the animals such as interacting with lemurs or feeding the chimpanzees – included with the admission ticket price.

The park boasts its own water park and go-kart track (available at extra cost). For one of the most personally memorable ways to support the animals, spend an extra €45 and enjoy swimming with sea lions.

Terra Natura, Benidorm | Travel time 1h 15m

Terra Natura is a zoo theme park and aqua park near Benidorm. This large park covers 79 acres divided into four zoological and geographic zones: Pangea, America, Asia and Europe.

It's the perfect day out for avid animal lovers, and the park's “Zooimmersion” habitat design enables park visitors to make contact with the animals through safety barriers invisible to the human eye.

Terra Natura offers visitors a chance to get up close and personal with the animals, even sometimes allowing you to touch them. The facility is one of the largest parks of its kind in Europe, hosting 1,500 animals covering more than 200 species, many of whom are endangered in the wild.

There are shops and restaurants throughout the park, and picnic areas are provided for guests who prefer to cater to their own needs.

The Island of Tabarca, Santa Pola | Travel time 40m

Just 4 km’s from Santa Pola’s bleached white sandy beaches, the Island of Tabarca is a small island located eastward of the Costa Blanca coastline.

The historic island is just a 40-minute boat trip away from Torrevieja, and after the cosmopolitan and vibrant modern ambience of the city, you´re likely to feel like you have stepped back in time.

The island is renowned for its fabulous clear waters, sandy beaches, and the coves and cliffs that surround the island.

Enjoy your journey to the island from Torrevieja on a glass-bottomed boat, visit the lighthouse or explore the historic buildings such as the fort, and finish your day with a visit to pirate-themed cafes, bars or restaurants and taste some traditional Spanish seafood.

La Manga del Mar Menor, Murcia | Travel time 50m

Less than one hour south of La Zenia you'll find the area of La Manga del Mar Menor. Translating as “The Sandbar of the Minor Sea”, the natural sandbank is a sliver of land, at some points less than one hundred metres wide, that runs north to south and creates an almost completely enclosed vast saltwater lake.

The result is a naturally formed seaside spit almost 21 km in length with long sandy beaches and warm-water seas on either side.

La Manga is exceptionally well-developed as a resort for tourists and the area offers a choice of fine quality restaurants, ice cream parlours, and even a cinema.

With Blue Flag beaches, a relatively short journey time, and a wealth of things to do and see in La Manga, the area is well worth a visit. Local amenities, bars, and restaurants in La Manga del Mar Menor are open to all visitors for the summer season.

Located immediately adjacent to Torrevieja’s port, you’ll find a palm tree-lined promenade that winds along the Mediterranean coastline.

It’s the perfect place to spend any time of day, with local shops, restaurants, and cafe bars along the route, all providing refreshments throughout your journey.

The route is flat and wide from beginning to end, suited to all ages and levels of physical ability, and wheelchair friendly for persons with limited mobility.

The coastline is spectacular and naturally rocky, providing plenty of opportunities for children to explore Mediterranean wildlife in the rock pools.

Three small sandy beaches line the route, but be warned, they’re exceptionally popular and rather crowded during the height of the summer months.

There’s ample overground paid parking provided at Parque de Atracciones de Paseo at the southwestern end of the promenade, and with prices from just €1.20 per hour, it’s a cheap way to fill a day.

Unspoilt natural beauty, the salt lakes of Torrevieja

Torrevieja is home to two majestic salt lakes, one a vibrant azure blue in colour, and the other a surreal and vivid pink.

The bubblegum pink colour of the water in the salt lake has been attributed to a rare type of micro-algae that thrives in exceptionally salty conditions, called Dunaliella Salina.

Home to 2,000 flamingos during migratory seasons, the local town hall ensures that this wild habitat remains protected during critical periods to ensure that the magnificent wading birds can enjoy their fleeting season in the sun in complete safety.

The wetland is revered locally for its undoubted sheer beauty and botanical value and over the years the council has established a nature reserve to protect the precious ecosystem, the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja.

A network of walkways and trails wind around the lakes, and the park offers viewing towers and picnic areas for nature lovers looking for solitude off the beaten track. But don´t be tempted to venture into the idyllic waters, the lakes are reserved for wildlife exclusively.

Splashing around in Torrevieja at Aquopolis waterpark

With 14 water rides and dedicated facilities for children, Torrevieja’s Aquopolis should certainly be on the top of your list of things to do.

Splashing about and having fun in the sun whilst enjoying the cooling effects of the water, can help to provide some relief from even the hottest of summer days in Spain.

In addition to the high adrenaline faster rides like Boomerang, Speed, and Kamikaze; you’ll find family favourites such as a lazy river and a large swimming pool equipped with a wave machine.

The tourist attraction features six on-site casual eateries, with a bar, an ice cream parlour, and a pizzeria.

Ticket prices start at a very reasonable €15.90 when booked online, and the waterpark opens its doors this year on 8th June.

Miles of white sand and calm waters, La Mata beach

The tourist attractions and things to do around Torrevieja get plentiful positive reviews, but La Mata beach is by far the most reviewed local attraction on TripAdvisor, with more than 1,000 reviews by visitors to the area.

And it’s no surprise either. An outstanding 2,300 metres of pure unspoilt natural beach, the sandy strip stands an average of 40 metres wide alongside a traditional promenade that’s wide enough to accommodate wheelchair and mobility scooter users.

That means that even in the height of summer you’ll always find a space on La Mata beach.

The town hall provides lifeguards during peak season, and the beach is well served by beachside bars, restaurants, and bistros providing a wide variety of food and refreshments.

For many, La Mata beach represents the epitome of what a typical Mediterranean beach should be, and for more active sunseekers there are several volleyball nets, a football pitch (yes, on the beach), and pedal boats for hire during the summer months.

Torrevieja floating museum, the S-61 Delfín Submarine

The S-61 Delfín is a French-built Daphné class diesel-electric patrol submarine that entered service with the Spanish Navy in late 1974.

The formidable war machine displaces more than 1,000 tonnes and packed a complement of 50 servicemen inside her 58 metres (190 feet) length.

Capable of staying on station for a 30-day endurance, and with a range of 18,400 km (10,000 miles) she employed cutting-edge maritime technology, with torpedo tubes fore and aft.

Decommissioned in 2003, today she serves as a museum ship in Torrevieja’s harbour becoming Spain’s first floating museum.

One of only four surviving examples of her class, the S-61 Delfín offers a rare opportunity to climb inside a real submarine and imagine how claustrophobic it must have been for 50 crew deep below the waves.

The historic military attraction is exceptionally popular, having received more than 1,300,000 visitors since opening in May 2004.

The submarine is open to visitors each evening from 18:00 throughout the summer. Just don’t visit on rainy days – the metal stairs and walkways can get slippery when wet, so the attraction is closed for safety reasons.

Hours of fun whatever the weather, Ozone Bowling

Contrary to the name, Ozone Bowling is a comprehensive sports and leisure Centre in the heart of Torrevieja city.

It’s a fantastic choice for the whole family as there is something fun to suit all ages, and it should be on your list of things to do just in case the weather isn’t as good as we would prefer.

And even when the weather is fine, more than 6,000 m² of boulevard and terraces ensure that you can still enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine.

The bowling facilities themselves feature a modern arcade with 16 lanes and prices from €3.90 per game, with shoe hire costing an additional €1.00. Prices are a little higher on evenings and weekends, but there are discount tickets on offer.

Tire out your little ones in the kid's playground, bouncy castles and trampolines, or visit the Virtual Zone Arcade for video gaming fun.

The attraction also offers an indoor soft play area and a mini-golf course outside too, so your children can burn off some of that seemingly endless energy.

There are a variety of restaurants to choose from with the option to eat indoors or outdoors if you want to make the most of the wonderful weather Torrevieja has to offer.

Torrevieja Port, extreme sports or leisurely enjoyment

As the city’s dependence on fishing declines, the Port of Torrevieja has become a haven for landlubbers keen to stretch their sea legs.

But even today, head down to Torrevieja Port and you’ll find leisure boats, motor yachts and cruisers, alongside fishing trawlers returning with the catch of the day.

There’s a beautiful crescent-shaped beach to enjoy (of course), replete with the usual variety of beachside eateries and casual cafes. But there is a wilder side to the port.

A wire-pull water-ski operates to one side of the harbour while the port also offers jet-ski hire. Thrill-seekers can experience the full-throttle experience of a class-A powerboat on the inshore open waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

For the ultimate thrill, give the Flyboard a try. Strap one to your feet and the powerful surge of water from the jet-ski impeller instantly turns you into Iron Man, propelling you skyward above the waves.

Torrevieja Auditorium, a taste of Spanish culture and music

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Spain, visit Torrevieja’s superb auditorium.

Located beside the N-332 adjacent to the Quiron Salud private hospital, Torrevieja’s auditorium building is a majestic oval-shaped building and a work of fine Spanish design and should be on your list of things to do if you're a lover of beautiful architecture.

Formally known as the International Conservatory of Music Auditorium, the venue hosts live music events throughout the year including popular Spanish artists, ballet performances, and classical music from the Mediterranean Symphony Orchestra.

Events during the summer months tend to be infrequent but special, attracting big-name Spanish stars of music, and large audiences.

Torrevieja’s urban garden, The Park of Nations

Set within the heart of the City, you'll find an unexpected surprise. The Park of Nations is a little slice of tranquillity in an otherwise bustling Spanish metropolis.

Occupying 20,000m² of central cityscape, the park features a large lake – home to swans, ducks, geese, and many other exotic waterfowl, in addition to approximately 3,000 coloured carp, and hundreds of European pond turtles.

The lake itself surrounds an artificial cape in the shape of mainland Europe, with individual flags representing each nation-state.

The lake is surrounded on all sides by beautifully manicured gardens, a large dedicated play area for children, and tree-covered walkways and paths that provide welcome relief from the relentless Spanish summer sun.

The Mediterranean plants and trees provide a home for chickens, cockerels, and peacocks that roam the park grounds freely.

The northern end of the Playa de la Glea offers a spectacular elevated walkway that hugs the vibrant red cliff face and provides a natural thoroughfare directly connecting to Aguamarina beach and its curvaceous promenade.

The simply huge size of the beach, its relative proximity to local amenities, and essential services like a Chiringuito beach bar and a lifeguard service throughout the summer months make it a firm favourite location for savvy holidaymakers and sun-seekers.

Live Music Summer Nights, Villamartin Plaza

Villamartin Plaza's summer entertainments schedule is legendary, attracting international artists from all four corners of the world.

And for the 2020 season, they've pulled out all the stops to provide world-class entertainment throughout the summer and into September. With local acts performing alongside famous musicians, the Plaza provides nightly entertainment three days a week during the holiday season.

British 70s icons “The Bay City Rollers” closed out last year's sessions, and Villamartin Plaza promises another star-studded summer of fabulous live music for 2020.

The Best Orihuela Costa Beaches, Cala Bosque and Cala Cerrada

La Zenia's beaches are exceptionally popular with both locals and holidaymakers alike, with two beaches to choose from separated by the imposing Hotel Servigroup La Zenia hotel that overlooks both sandy strips.

Known locally as Playa Cala Bosque, the main beach in La Zenia has become even more popular since the opening of Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, which has contributed to the fast-paced rapid growth of the area.

Cala Bosque beach offers a total length of around 350 metres and an average width of 60 metres to the shoreline, whilst Cala Cerrada is a somewhat smaller cove-shaped beach. Both beaches sport 100% pure white golden sand and Blue Flag accreditation.

Jetski Hire, Puerto Deportivo de Cabo Roig

Cabo Roig's marina is one of the most sought-after locations for a private mooring in the entire Iberian peninsula, but it's the sporting facilities that draw the crowds year-round.

The marina is one of just a handful of locations on the entire Costa Blanca where eager thrill-seekers can hire a jetski without having to present a hefty deposit alongside a “Moto Nautica A” – the Spanish equivalent of the RYA's personal watercraft proficiency course.

The venue offers the latest Sea-Doo performance PWCs, and hire costs start from €80 for half an hour. That might sound a little pricey, but the cost includes a fully trained instructor who will follow on a separate jet ski to ensure your safety through the challenging inshore waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

Playa Flamenca Street Market, Playa Flamenca

Playa Flamenca's street market is steeped in tradition and offers a chance to experience some authentic Spanish culture in a modern urban environment. It's certainly one of our favourite things to do on the Orihuela Costa.

Every Saturday morning you’ll find locals of all nationalities buying regional fresh produce to create meals at home for the forthcoming week, often stopping for a bite to eat and a drink at one of the market´s restaurants or café-bars.

The street market sells everything you might need from fresh fruit and vegetables, textiles and clothing, a rich variety of homewares, and Spanish made goods that make perfect gifts to take back home for family or friends.

Go-Karts Orihuela Costa, Playa Flamenca

But if markets don't match your desire for a faster pace of Spanish life, Go-Karts Orihuela Costa has something to supercharge your holiday.

The venue offers a multitude of activities, two different racing tracks, and racing karts and quad-bikes in a variety of riding styles and levels of performance. Children aged 10 years or over are welcome to participate in races held on the championship track.

The championship racing track is a twisting network of asphalt with high-speed straights and tightly spiralled hairpins with a capacity for up to 26 drivers at any one time, complemented by a digital scoreboard and viewing bridge.

Orihuela Costa Things to Do, Playa de Cabo Roig

You can easily while away a summer´s day on Cabo Roig's stunning beach. One of the finest you'll find in any Mediterranean resort, Playa de La Caleta is an unspoiled strip of white sand 287m long and 43m deep to the shoreline.

Accessed by a walkway that meanders down the cliff wall and surrounded by Mediterranean trees that nod to the historic 16th-century watchtower that's overseen the cove for more than 400 years.

The beach provides a small bar and lifeguard services during high season, and a coastal path runs around the coastline connecting with Cala Capitán and La Zenia beaches to the north.

Bicycle Hire on the Beaches, La Zenia

It's actually possible to cycle for countless miles along the Mediterranean coastline, and the local area has one of the longest off-road dedicated cycle lanes in Spain.

It's one of our favourite things to do on the Orihuela Costa, and it's cheap, safe and family-friendly too. It is a great way to explore the coastal area and stop by hidden beaches and coves that you might not have otherwise found.

No bike? No problem. I Love Bike in La Zenia specialises in hiring out bikes for all sizes and ages. Hire a bike for a day or a week with budget prices and a choice of different styles of bicycle. For the adventurous, they even offer tandem bikes too!

Minigolf La Mosca, Playa Flamenca

Even if you're a regular visitor to the Orihuela Costa, this family-friendly local attraction is easily overlooked and you've probably driven past it a dozen times before. But high above the La Mosca commercial centre is a winding mini-golf course that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

Replete with water features, bunkers, and challenging fairways, the mini-golf course packs many of the things you might expect to find on any of the golf courses in our local area – just smaller and possibly moderately less taxing.

The venue offers a full-bar serving refreshing drinks and ice creams, covered areas for shade, and snooker table hire. Open daily throughout the summer from 11:00, you can find more information about Minigolf La Mosca on their Facebook page.

The train offers a super-fun way to see the sights and experience the sounds of the region, and scheduled stops include Playa Flamenca beach, La Zenia beach, Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, the port and beaches of Campoamor, and the renowned Cabo Roig strip.

Villamartin Plaza's summer entertainments schedule is legendary, attracting international artists from all four corners of the world.

And for the summer season, they've pulled out all the stops to provide more than four months of world-class entertainment throughout the summer. With local acts performing alongside famous musicians, the Plaza provides nightly entertainment three days a week during the holiday season.

When we set out to create our magazine a year ago, we did so with one simple precept: to produce the first English language publication focused solely on the Orihuela Costa area.

On occasions, we do include content from outside the local area, notably events and information relating to Torrevieja. After all, it seems irrational to ignore matters occurring in our nearest neighbouring city given our relatively close proximity.

Nonetheless, we retain a sharp focus on our locale, showcasing businesses and venues that offer first class services, our rich variety of outstanding amenities, and the bountiful natural resplendence that we're lucky enough to live amongst all year round.

For it is these elements that contribute to the area's abundant social calendar, an inclusive schedule of events that run year-round, whether it's The Winter Beach activities at Cabo Roig, or the historic and ever-popular tours of Torrevieja's majestic salt lakes.

Undeniably popular with residents and visiting tourists alike, Torre de La Horadada is busy during the height of summer. But now things are a little quieter we decided to take a look for ourselves earlier this week.

Torre de la Horadada is named in honour of the medieval tower that overlooks both the beach of Playa del Conde and the adjacent marina.

Originally constructed in 1591 to defend against attacks by North African Barbary pirates and corsairs, the striking conical fortress, complete with crenellated battlements, has watched over the Mediterranean waters of Playa del Conde for more than 400 years.

Today the 16th-century watchtower (and the opulent family home that attaches to it) stands empty and remains in the possession of descendants of the Count of Roche.

Playa del Conde is one of six beaches to grace the shoreline in the town, with Playa del Puerto, Playa Jesuítas, Playa Rocamar, Playa de las Villas, and the largest of the town's beaches Las Higuericas, contributing to the beautiful coastline.

Each beach offers stretches of fine sand, Blue Flag accreditation for cleanliness, and vibrant azure-coloured waters.

Meticulously maintained by Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall, the beaches provide an enchanting and thoroughly delightful location for a mid-afternoon stroll, even in the height of the Spanish winter.

Visitors to Torre de La Horadada will find a veritable array of cafés, bistros, restaurants, and ice cream parlours (a local speciality).

Most amenities are centred around the port area, and in two pretty squares in the town.

The Plaza del Pueblo Latino is an enclosed square to the north of the district offering a selection of fine dining restaurants surrounding an ornate fountain, just a few streets away from Playa Rocamar.

By contrast, Plaza de Antonio Sánchez Lozano a little further south is an open square covered by Mediterranean palm trees immediately adjacent to the marina.

The plaza provides the ideal place to enjoy a meal under the shade of the trees, in a relaxed, quite honestly stunning, and friendly environment.

Torre de La Horadada: Mediterranean vistas throughout the winter

Restaurants and (more) ice cream parlours, including the locally renowned Galán parlour, overlook the marina from an elevated location.

The marina provides a safe harbour for up to 525 leisure and sailing vessels, an upscale restaurant with stunning Mediterranean vistas, and an autumn and winter fishing school with competitions throughout the season.

Torre de La Horadada offers plenty to do and see throughout the low season months, and the locale is well worth a visit.
