Residents and visitors are preparing for a weekend of celebration and fun, great food and drink, spectacular music and entertainment, and a St Patrick's Day show that promises to be the biggest and best.

The committee members have been working tirelessly over the last few months to organise this year's parade, an award-winning event accredited by Radio Orihuela as the best-organised festival in the Vega Baja.

The parade is a testament to the hard work, fundraising, and generous contributions from local businesses and associations. This year's hotly anticipated St Patrick's Day Parade will take place in Cabo Roig on Sunday 15th March 2026, with all the fun starting at 15:00.

The biggest St Patrick's Day Parade in mainland Europe

The Cabo Roig St Patrick's Day parade is mainland Europe's largest St Patrick's Day celebration. People typically travel from Ireland and all corners of the world to attend the Irish event, and previous parades have attracted tens of thousands of partygoers.

Cabo Roig has a rich history and deep connection with many expatriate Irish folk who came to settle on the Orihuela Costa's sunnier shores over recent years, and this year's event will bring out the best of the Irish in everyone.

The famous Cabo Roig Strip, a line of bars, clubs, cafes, shops and restaurants that form a roadside promenade adjacent to the main N-332 coast road, will be turned into a Mediterranean Sea of green Irish pride for the day.

Traditionally a Christian feast day, St Patrick's Day has become an iconic institution. It represents a special time for Irish people the world over to celebrate their nationality and the heritage of the Emerald Isle in a somewhat unrestrained manner.

The annual St Patrick's Day parade in Cabo Roig owes its continued success to a dedicated team of organisers, and coordination between the St Patrick's Day Parade committee and Orihuela Town Hall.

The parade will start at 15:00 from Calle Agua. The route will head southward along Calle del Mar and turn right at the end of the road to proceed northward along the front of the strip beside the N-332.

Deputy Peter Roche, Fine Gael TD for Galway East, will be this year's parade Grand Marshall. According to parade organisers “Peter brings true Irish spirit, pride, and craic to one of Europe's biggest St. Patrick's celebrations. A dedicated public representative with deep Galway roots, he's the perfect person to lead our green parade down the iconic Cabo Roig Strip.”

The parade is expected to be the most colourful yet, with troupes including ex-Irish Army Veterans' Pipe Band, marching bands, drummers, stilt walkers, colourful dancers dressed in glamorous and elaborate costumes, and floats constructed by local businesses.

The family-friendly event will offer entertainment for children, live music all day (and long into the evening), and bars and restaurants along the strip will feature a selection of special menus and, of course … Guinness!

The Spanish annual festivities are typically elaborate, celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in a unique and inimitable fashion that is both wildly patriotic and imaginatively eccentric.

The annual Vega Baja celebration, now in its twenty-sixth year, will see locals and visitors flock to a pretty plaza and the beach in Torrevieja's northernmost urbanisation to enjoy a midday barbecue.

The party attracts people from across the Torrevieja and Vega Baja regions, local residents, and visitors from colder climes in Northern Europe, who visit Torre La Mata for this special day.

Marking the feast of San Antón, partygoers attending this gastronomic celebration typically bring their own tables, chairs, barbecues, and supplementary food and drink, spilling from the picturesque plaza onto La Mata's resplendent golden sandy beach.

Completely free of charge, the event organisers provide more than 600 kg of exceptional quality pork produce, 150 kg of fresh bread, celery, and 150 litres of locally produced La Mata wine – a pale-straw hued fine white wine made from the grapes of Merseguera vines.

Pork meat, including fine ham, will be distributed as part of the meal, and pork chops will be cooked on portable barbecues in front of the “Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario” church.

At the end of the celebrations, the organisers hold a ham raffle to raise funds for the next meal – due to be held in January 2027!

The public party is free to attend and requires no booking or registration, but participants are urged to arrive on time to collect their food. Local shops and café bars will be open to provide additional refreshments.

Known in Spain as the “Cabalgata de Reyes Magos”, Three Kings parades take place on the eve of Three Kings Day every year throughout the country. The following day, 6th January, is recognised as a national public holiday within the Iberian Peninsula and Spanish islands.

The Three Kings Day Parade celebrates the religious journey of the Magi, the three kings who visited Jesus in Bethlehem shortly after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The annual celebration was first held over a decade ago and has grown year-on-year into the most prominent outdoor festive celebration in the Costa Blanca region, and the largest Christmas beach party in Europe.

The origins of the Christmas Day party on La Zenia Beach can be traced back to a group of expatriates who, far from their snowy homelands, sought to create a celebration that captured the spirit of Christmas in a Mediterranean setting.

Those initial events were a small, intimate gathering of friends and fellow expats. Still, its popularity quickly grew, turning it into a beloved local tradition spread through word-of-mouth and shared experiences.

The history of the La Zenia Beach Christmas Day party

Suspended during the pandemic, the event returned to the Orihuela Costa social calendar in December 2022 after a three-year hiatus, with thousands of partygoers attending the family-friendly event, enjoying the brilliant blue skies, the fine white sands, and a daytime high exceeding 20°c.

The established international event is held annually. It brings together residents and visitors from over 100 nationalities, with people travelling from cooler climes in Northern Europe and diverse parts of the world to participate in the celebrations.

It's a testament to the creativity and adaptability of communities in embracing the festive spirit in unconventional ways. The beach party has become a cherished tradition in a town where the sun often shines on Christmas Day, blending established festive customs with the relaxed atmosphere of Spanish coastal living.

The La Zenia Beach Christmas Day party is a spontaneous community gathering, neither organised nor sponsored by any individual or organisation. The event is supported by the local Police, who provide a safe environment for people to enjoy the festivities and manage the traffic around the event location.

It is traditional (although not compulsory) for partygoers to dress in Christmas attire. Rudolph antlers and Santa hats are an expected part of the special day.

Many attendees at last year's event brought folding chairs, picnic tables, oversized parasols, and cool boxes full of refreshments. In addition, visitors often bring their own fresh food and outdoor cooking equipment for a very different and unique Christmas lunch experience.

Attendees bring an assortment of traditional dishes from their home countries to the beach to enjoy on the day, creating a multicultural banquet with flavours from around the world.

From paella to mince pies, the spread is as contrasting as the attendees themselves. Sharing food, stories, and laughter, there can be no doubt that the party bridges cultural gaps and fosters a shared sense of festive unity.

What's On at Christmas in Orihuela Costa

The much-loved Chiringuito beach bar will provide a complete bar service and a menu of light bites directly on the sand.

The bar was absent in 2023 due to a licencing issue, and had been removed from the beach and placed into storage before that year's Christmas event took place.

The La Mirada restaurant adjacent to the beach is expected to be open for business as usual, but prior reservations inside the restaurant are highly recommended. The restaurant also offers toilet facilities.

The classical Dacapo Orchestra performed at last year's beach party from 11:00, with a rendition of popular festive music to enhance the atmosphere for partygoers. Whilst there is no official communication at this time, music is expected to be a part of this year's experience.

The La Zenia Beach Christmas Day party starts at 10:00. Nonetheless, attendees are advised to get to the beach early, as long traffic queues often build up in the areas around the venue, particularly along the N-332 in both north and southbound directions.

Parking spaces on the day can be challenging to come by, so be prepared to walk the final leg of your journey.

One of the highlights of the Orihuela Costa annual social calendar, the La Zenia Beach Christmas Day party takes place this year on Thursday, 25th December 2025 from 10:00. The event is non-ticketed, open to everyone, and free to attend.

Orihuela Costa's favourite telecoms team is hosting their 6th annual open day, celebrating Halloween with a campaign that takes the cultural celebration back to its roots.

The company will offer a safe haven from Halloween fear, and a unique experience where you can leave filled with positive energy.

The traditional fiesta encompasses music, dance performances, gastronomy, fireworks, competitions, and 19 days of the best entertainment from local musicians and acclaimed DJs.

Every evening from 21:00 at Zenia Boulevard's car park in front of the Leroy Merlin store, visitors will find a stage with live music and talent competitions, a fair and crafts market, a bonfire, and speciality bars serving food and drinks.

Highlights of the Orihuela Costa San Juan Festival include the official inauguration party, organised family-friendly events and children's activities, and a spectacular finale evening with fireworks.

The opening ceremony takes place on Thursday 12th June an hour earlier at 20:00, when the lighting display will be illuminated for the first time. DJ Djayme will open the festivities with an evening of music.

The San Juan celebrations promise spectacular performances by local dance associations, festival evenings, music to suit all generations, and a foam party.

The main event in the local San Juan calendar takes place on Monday 23rd June, with the burning of the Hogueras, a fireworks show, and music from DJ Gonza from 21:00. Here's the 2025 event schedule:-

Organised by our very own local legend, Casey Shaddock, the event looks more like an open-air summer festival, with a host of talented musicians and international entertainers lining up to take to the main stage, and entertain the crowds on Saturday 14th October at Restaurante Los Cucalos in Los Dolses.

This isn't Casey's first rodeo; she has been the pioneering architect behind some of the most significant public events throughout the Costa Blanca. Casey was the driving force behind Villamartin Plaza's phenomenal “Summer Nights” music programme, bringing household names such as The Bay City Rollers and Leo Sayer to the Orihuela Costa year after year.

In recent years, Casey has organised concerts that have packed venues in Benidorm and raised almost one hundred thousand Euros for charities and good causes in Spain.

So it should come as no surprise that the Queen of Charity and Entertainment has pulled out all the stops to assemble a tour-de-force of musical performers for this special day to support another worthy cause.

Little Pod Association in La Zenia

The “Crazy at Cucalos” event aims to raise much-needed funds for the Little Pod Association animal charity in La Zenia. The charity is staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers who provide vital care for cats and dogs in need.

The non-profit registered charity offers a rehoming programme and essential healthcare for pets. It provides safe refuge for homeless animals in a purpose-built shelter with daily care from people who interact with the cats and dogs, attending to their essential everyday needs.

The charity raises funds via a shop in La Zenia. Casey has rallied local businesses to sponsor the event, with 75 prestigious venues stepping up to provide financial backing for the big day.

From bars and restaurants, retail outlets, and service providers in our area, to car hire companies, insurance offices, and estate agents – local enterprises have thrown their weight behind the charity party.

But there is still plenty of time for other local businesses to add vital support. Restaurante Los Cucalos in Los Dolses

The venue chosen to host the “Crazy at Cucalos” event is Restaurante Los Cucalos in Los Dolses, adjacent to La Zenia. A local favourite, the restaurant is simply cavernous, with plenty of space for entertaining hundreds of visitors.

Awarded the coveted SICTED mark of distinction for quality, Restaurante Los Cucalos offers a spectacular dining room, a spacious conservatory, an al fresco dining terrace, and a large outdoor children's play area.

The family-friendly venue specialises in traditional Spanish rice dishes and a gastronomic Mediterranean menu of fresh seasonal vegetables, seafood and meat. The kitchen team will offer a dedicated food menu on the day, and a full bar service will be available throughout the event.

Renowned for its live music programme throughout the year, it's fitting that Restaurante Los Cucalos should host some of the most prestigious names in local entertainment for the day.

Eleven supporting acts are donating their time for free, and the line-up is a veritable who's-who of talented local singers and international entertainers. Local band “The Cages”, will be headlining, alongside the ex-lead vocalist from the British soul sensation “Hot Chocolate”, Greg Bannis.

Local singer Margaret McDonald will open the musical extravaganza, taking centre stage at 13:35. The accomplished artist will precede a succession of talented entertainers to provide an unmissable day-long live music concert experience.

Supporting a fabulous charity party in Los Dolses

The event will be hosted by Casey Shaddock, Si Mulvey, and Suzie Mulvey, with support from Graham White. There will be plenty of fund-raising activities throughout the day, including a raffle with a grand cash prize of 1,000 €.

“Crazy at Cucalos” takes place on Saturday 14th, October 2023, from 13:00 until late. The event is free to attend, and admission tickets are not required. So, in the words of organiser Casey Shaddock, “Get here early, grab a seat, some drinks, and sit back for one helluva day!”

The luck of the Irish has been in limited supply of late, with the 10th-anniversary parade in Cabo Roig delayed for the past three years.

Originally scheduled to take place in March 2020, the Cabo Roig parade was one of the first events in the Orihuela Costa social calendar to be affected by the global pandemic, and the event was cancelled just days beforehand.

Emergency health measures prevented the St Patrick's Day parade from taking place in 2021, and in 2022 the parade was suspended yet again, this time due to unseasonably wet weather conditions.

An International Parade took place in May last year, but a March St Patrick's Day parade hasn't been seen on the streets of Cabo Roig since 2019. After a four-year absence, the belated 10th-anniversary parade is finally scheduled to take place on Friday 17th March 2023.

The Cabo Roig St Patrick's Day parade is one of the largest Irish parades in mainland Europe. People typically travel from Ireland and all corners of the world to attend the Irish festive event, and previous parades have attracted tens of thousands of partygoers.

Cabo Roig has a rich history and deep connection with many expatriate Irish folks who came to settle on the Orihuela Costa's sunnier shores over recent years, and this year's event will bring out the best of the Irish in everyone.

The famous Cabo Roig Strip, a line of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants that form a roadside promenade adjacent to the main N-332 coast road, will be turned into a Mediterranean Sea of green Irish pride for the day.

Traditionally a Christian feast day, St Patricks Day has become an iconic institution, representing a special time for Irish people the world over to celebrate their nationality and the heritage of the Emerald Isle in a somewhat unrestrained manner.

The annual St Patrick's Day parade in Cabo Roig owes its continued success to a dedicated team of organisers, generous and regular contributions from local businesses, and coordination between the St Patrick's Day Parade committee and Orihuela Town Hall.

The parade will start at 15:00 from Calle Agua. The route will head southward along Calle del Mar and turn right at the end of the road to proceed northward along the front of the strip beside the N-332.

Anthony Molloy, a member of the Donegal County Council in Ireland and a former captain of the Donegal county football team, will be this year's parade Marshall. He will be joined by members of the parade committee, the mayor, and councillors from the local Orihuela town hall.

The parade is expected to be the most colourful yet, with traditional bands, floats constructed by many of the local businesses, and dancers dressed in glamorous and elaborate costumes.

The family-friendly event will offer entertainment for children, live music all day (and long into the evening), and bars and restaurants along the strip will be offering a selection of special menus and, of course … Guinness!

The Spanish annual festivities are typically elaborate and vivid, celebrating Saint Patrick's Day in an inimitable fashion that is both wildly patriotic and imaginatively eccentric.
