Orihuela Costa celebrates San Juan at La Zenia Beach

ORIHUELA COSTA will celebrate the traditional San Juan Bonfire Night on Tuesday 23rd June, on two of its beaches. Many residents of Orihuela Costa enjoy this popular festival on the local beaches, making it a special celebration enjoyed by people of all ages.

The Bonfires of San Juan, or “Hogueras de San Juan”, mark the arrival of summer, and traditionally, families and groups of friends build fires on the beach, gather around them, eat, drink, and socialise late into the night.

Over the past few years, Orihuela Costa has celebrated with a fair and a calendar of evening activities to mark the historic Spanish festival. But for the first time in recent years, the building of fires on Playa Cala Bosque in La Zenia and Playa de la Glea in Campoamor will be permitted by the Town Hall.

In collaboration with the chiringuito beach bars, 5,000 kg of pine and mimosa wood will be provided for the celebrations. No other types of wood or materials that could be used for bonfires will be permitted.

Around 25 Local Police and Civil Protection volunteers will be on hand to ensure the night passes smoothly and without incident, and attendees are asked to keep their bonfires manageable and less than one metre in height for safety reasons.

The Urban Cleaning Department will provide additional staff and resources to ensure the beaches are cleaned promptly, but visitors are asked to act responsibly and deposit waste inside or beside the litter bins provided.

The San Juan Bonfire Night celebrations will take place this evening, Tuesday 23rd June 2026 from 20:00 until 02:00.

Chiringuitos Del Sol are hosting a live music performance on Cala Bosque beach from 18:00 before the main celebrations.
